Brand New Website For BallinaSoccer.com.au
Monday, April 14th, 2008I hope that by the time you are reading this, the site looks a little bit better and brighter than it did before. You may notice that there are a few bugs around the place, but hopefully we will iron them out over the next few days (or weeks). One of the things I would like to draw your attention to is the extra number of pages that will need work. The site is now one of the main forms of information for the Ballina Soccer Club, so we need to put - you guessed it - information on the site.
If you see a page that is empty or in need of further development, please feel free to contribute. If you do not know how to use the Admin area, send me an email and I will show you how. Alternatively, just type something up and I will post it for you.
Remember that this is your site, so please use it to let peple know what is going on.
Thanks for all those that have freely offered there ideas to the project, and we hope you continue to enjoy.
Comments…Again.
Tuesday, April 17th, 2007As of tonight (or tommorrow), the full list of juniors will be added to the mailing list for the newsletter.
The newsletter will be referring all juniors to the site for their information and enjoyment.
Therefore, all comments will now be strictly moderated.
Any comment not related to the post will be deleted.
Any comment containing offensive remarks or language will be deleted.
Any member that posts a comment that violates the above rules will have all future comments put into moderation to be approved.
If you have something that you would like to discuss, please log in and write a post and we can comment on that.
New Forum Open.
Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006After a few requests, I have installed a forum on the site.
You can access it by clicking here, or from the rightmenu on the home page.
How to Use The Admin Section
Wednesday, July 5th, 2006Not everyone will be able to see the things that I am talking about below, and if you have a question, please comment here and I will answer it.
Contributing Stories
Log in, and use the “Write a Post” Link. You will see a window that You can type your story into. You will need a title, the story, and a category. You will see the categories over to the right hand side. Tick the box that is most suitable. This is important, because the home page picks out stories based on the categories. Click Save when you are done.
Note: Don’t cut and paste from Word into the story editor. If you must, copy from word to NotePad, then copy from NotePad to the editor.
Publishing Stories
If you have enough permissions to publish stories, log in and go to the “Manage” Link at the top of the screen. You will be able to publish stories or moderate comments from here. It is pretty straight forward, just read the instructions. Make sure the proper category is selected before approving posts.
Note: When approving comments, use your discretion as to whether they are appropriate. I usually ask myself whether I would like the youngest member of the soccer club to see it before approving it.
Thats about all I can think of. I will post more later, or answer questions in the comments.
The mystery of disappearing comments.
Wednesday, July 5th, 2006There has been a massive amount of comments going missing lately, and people are starting to wonder why.
Well let me clear it up. Once a comment is posted, it goes through certain filters to check whether it looks like spam or whether it has bad language. If it is clear it gets posted straight away. If it is not, then it goes into a moderation queue until the administrators approve it.
So it is not lost, you just have to wait for it to be approved. You do not need to repeatedly post the same comment over and over. That just means we have to delete five of the same comment before posting the oldest one.
I know some of the reason behind this is because I am the only admin. If I am busy I dont check the soccer club email, so that gives you all more time to think “hmmm, that comment didn’t show up for the third time. I better post it again…”, and I have a full in box when I get home. So I am going to take the step and promote a few people.
I will post some instructions soon.
A note on Commenting…
Wednesday, April 5th, 2006I think it is time to establish a few guidlines on the comments on the site. I have been editing a few comments, but it is getting a little hard to keep doing it.
Please read the Site Guidelines page in the righthand menu.

More info will be added as time goes by, but at the moment, the most important news is that monthly meetings will now be held every second Monday of the Month at the Ballina RSL.
This will make it much easier to attend both training sessions and the club meetings, so get involved and make the club a better place.
Check out the Ballina Soccer club Information Page.
