Junior Academy Program
Welcome All,
The Junior Football Academy is back again for the 2009 season. The Academy will provide an opportunity for your child to develop the correct technique, improve their skills, learn tactical awareness and be challenged in a safe, positive and enjoyable environment
Our coach Dwayne Smith has 8 years International fulltime coaching experience with juniors ranging from 4 years of age to Elite youth of 17 years. Together this experience mixed with his FFA qualifications; Junior – Youth – Senior – Advanced C Licences brings a highly experienced, qualified & motivated coach to your child.
This season there is a few new exciting changes:
We are excited to announce that the Academy will be offered at two venues this season;
The Ballina Soccer Club and the Lennox Head Football Club.
Pay for two training sessions and get the third training session for free:
Student’s who train twice per week are offered a third session at no extra cost. The third session will be on Friday’s where the Ballina students and Lennox Head students will come together to practice what they have learnt through the week in the form of “small sided games” or mini matches. Students are encouraged to use these Friday sessions as a time to play with flair and try new moves regardless of the outcome.
When coaching in Hong Kong Dwayne built this “3rd session for free” into his Academy and he credits the “third session” as being one of the reasons that his students were so successful on the field and why they played with passion and flair.
We at the Junior Football Academy share your child’s passion and enthusiasm for football. The Academy has been formed to give local children a place where they can learn the correct technique & skills of the game in an innovative and safe environment. A place where they are motivated to try new things, become proficient at playing and realize their full potential, both on and off the pitch.
The Academy’s emphasis is on individual development and fun, yet we pride ourselves on building team players through our professional and structured approach to learning. We tailor each of our football coaching sessions to suit the student’s level of ability, and we nurture each child so they improve their skills and make real progress.
We look forward to seeing you on the field

Our Services
Our Football Academy enables children to learn the techniques and skills of the game with competency and flair!
Key skills taught include:
- Movement & agility
- Ball mastery and control
- Feints, turns and 1v1 moves
- Finishing / shooting
- Speed
- Tactical awareness through group play
- Match tactics & strategies
Our ultimate aim is to help each child progress, and nurture their talent on the football field
How old are the students?
We offer coaching for children aged 6 to 12 (we can organise training for older students if wanted). Students will be placed in classes based on age as well as ability and experience. All children are assessed during their first few sessions by our coaches to ensure they are in the correct class.
How does it work?
The academy offers a scheduled timetable with specifically tailored sessions for the student’s development. Students will attend the academy sessions through the week (see timetable attached) and play matches with the club team in their age group on Saturdays.
Competition is a valuable tool for developing football skills and social development. Because of this, it is important for students to participate in their club matches; students will be encouraged to try their skills learnt at the Academy during Saturday’s club matches. Winning is important for developing a child’s self-esteem, but losing is equally important in learning sportsmanship, the Academy is focused on this rather than the final score!
