Why do we need a strategic plan?<\/li>\n<li>Planning the strategic direction for our club is necessary for the long term growth and prosperity.<\/li>\n<li>Ensures the club&#8217;s resources are deployed effectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What are the benefits?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Establishes a decision making framework .<\/li>\n<li>Fosters cohesion.<\/li>\n<li>Will educate and motivate members.<\/li>\n<li>More effective interaction with external bodies.<\/li>\n<li>Effective succession planning.<\/li>\n<li>early identifies where resources and funds should be directed.<\/li>\n<li>Shows potential sponsors and funding agencies that we know our business.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>A strategic plan is not an operational plan<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Operational planning is the day to day planning for what your organisation is doing. Strategic planning determines the entire direction of the organization, including what it&#8217;s not doing but should be doing. The two forms of planning must be integrated but not confused.<\/li>\n<li>Operational planning should respond to the strategic direction which is identified in the strategic plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Where to from here, &#8220;the plan&#8221;<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Needs to be created by the members, not just the committee at the time.<\/li>\n<li>Be transparent for the entire club.<\/li>\n<li>Not too in depth, &#8220;refer strategic &#8211; operational plan definition&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Needs a time limit. (governance)<\/li>\n<li>Not to be compiled as a dictatorship, this document will be the property of the Ballina Soccer Club.<\/li>\n<li>Operational Plan will be created once the strategic plan evolves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>STEP ONE.<\/h2>\n<p>Place on website feedback forum, also make available in hard copy at the club house. Require input on the following. We need VISION, MISSION &amp; VALUE statements.<\/p>\n<h3>A) VISION<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The vision is our determination of where we want to be.<\/li>\n<li>The vision is a statement of our future.<\/li>\n<li>The vision sets the objectives to motivate our focused efforts<\/li>\n<li>Our vision must be inspirational \u00e2\u20ac\u201c something to strive towards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Eg. &#8220;Football will have the most participants and provide the best sporting experience within the Ballina Shire&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>B) MISSION<\/h3>\n<p>A clear statement or what our club does or should do.<\/p>\n<p>Our mission should encapsulate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our overall objective<\/li>\n<li>Our unity of purpose<\/li>\n<li>Our attitudes and outlook<\/li>\n<li>Our reason for existence<\/li>\n<li>Our philosophy and purpose<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Eg. &#8220;We will support our football community through strong leadership, sound communication and clear strategic direction&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>C) VALUES<\/h3>\n<p>Values are the core of what our club is and what we cherish. Values are traits or qualities that are considered worthwhile, they represent our club&#8217;s highest priorities and deeply held driving forces and beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>Values shape our actions and are declarations about how the club will interact with members and other bodies.<\/p>\n<p>Eg.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trust and integrity<\/li>\n<li>Community focused<\/li>\n<li>Unity<\/li>\n<li>Innovative<\/li>\n<li>Professional<\/li>\n<li>Accountable<\/li>\n<li>Feedback needed on:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>OUR STRENGTHS<\/h3>\n<p>Eg. Inclusive age and gender<\/p>\n<h3>OUR WEAKNESSES<\/h3>\n<p>Eg. Cost of registration fees<\/p>\n<h3>OUR OPPORTUNITIES<\/h3>\n<p>Eg. Small sided games; Futsal.<\/p>\n<p>Once we establish our Vision, Mission and Values and obtain feedback on our strengths, weaknesses and opportunities we can then begin to compile our strategic plan and operational plan.<\/p>\n<p>Within these plans will be the key factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Governance<\/li>\n<li>Key Performance Areas<\/li>\n<li>Strategic Goals<\/li>\n<li>Key Performance Indicators<\/li>\n<li>Key Strategies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is important we obtain club members&#8217; input to the initial questions, this ensures ownership from the club not a dictatorship from the committee.<\/p>\n<p>Please send all feed back through the form below.<\/p>\n<p>[gravityform id=1 name=FeedbackForm ajax=true]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(the following transcript is available to download in pdf format &#8211; BSC Strategic Plan development) What is a Strategic Plan?
