Ballina midfielder wins player of the match in Final

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Ballina has succumbed to an unfortunate defeat in the final of the Anzac cup losing on penalties to some Lismore team.. . I don’t know which they all have the same vacant expression and shifty eyes.

The Balllina boys started proceedings well with some solid passing and constructive play only to allow the other team to net an easy goal. This however seemed to spur the seahorses on and they pushed forward repeatedly only to be denied time and again.

With Ballina enjoying the bulk of possession for the first half, the Lismore team were left looking ambulatory and disinterested, as if they were passing time until the centrelink opened the next day. This allowed Ballina to push forward and create holes with Troy Percival looking dangerous up front being supported by Shannon Macjieski (apologies for the butchering of your name dude) and Brent Manieri.

After the half time interval, the Lismore team still appeared disinterested and intent to only attack on the break. A tactic that was thwarted time and again by the Ballina backline, with big ups to Dave Betteridge, Dane Seymour, the unflappable Thommo and the webmaster himslef Lucas Wagland.

Apparently having not read (possibly due to lacking the ability to) the always entertaining football article in the local “newspaper” by their football “journalist” Lismore were again pedestrian at best after the half with Ballina able to turn concentrated pressure in to goals through a cracker from Phil Amery and penalty from Troy Percival after Cerys Hawkins expertly picked out a defenders arm in the box.

The seahorses pushed for a third goal to finish the tie, however this allowed the other team to score which brought the game back to evens. Then we scored through the ever reliable Adam Izzard and they got one back. It then went to extra time and then penalties. Afterwhich the game ended. Oh and Shaz got the player of the match. Huzzah for Shaz. Well deserved.

The Ballina squad did well in the game and should supporters should be bouyed by the teams efforts as the controlled the majority of the play and played some attractive football and created a lot of chances.

Oh and post script what the heck were the talking about in the “newspaper” article about them using the “spirit on Anzac day” to help them win? What the hell does that make us the Turks? They do actually read what he writes before they print it don’t they?

Socceroos to play Iraq at Brisvegas

Friday, April 4th, 2008

The Socceroos will play a friendly against Ghana and their final World Cup qualifying first round match in Sydney.

It was also announced today that Australia will play their World Cup qualifier against Iraq at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on June 1.

Australia will play the world’s 15th ranked team Ghana at the Sydney Football Stadium on Friday May 23.

They will then play the last of four June World Cup qualifiers at ANZ Stadium on June 22.

The Iraq match will be the first World Cup qualifier staged in Brisbane since 1992 and Football Federation Australia is hoping for a 52,000 sell-out.

The last time the Socceroos appeared in Brisbane was for a friendly against Paraguay in 2006 when they pulled a crowd of almost 50,000 at Suncorp.

The Socceroos head their World Cup qualification group after posting a 3-0 victory over Qatar and a nil-all draw to China last week.

What Ballina has a home game…..and you say it’s a semi!!!

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

That’s right people, this Friday the 4th of April will see the mighty Ballina Premier Anzac Cup team take on the likes of local rivals Lennox. The game will kick off at 8pm sharp. So get down and lend us your voice as the boys try and make their first final in 3 years. The team has been playing well and training hard and would love to see a full balcony to cheer them on as we beat the Lennox boys in our first home game of the year.

That time again is Friday 4th of April at 8pm. See you all there. Go the Blue Boys.

East Ballina Emus GOONNNEEEE!!!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

The East Ballina Emus have been beaten and will not take part in this seasons futsal finals. This after all their talk about how they would beat the mighty fluro yellow team.

The boys in the fluro yellow team wish the Emus all the best for their off season and maybe next year they will be lucky enough to make the semis. Don’t worry boys we will let you buy us a drink when we win.

East Ballina Emu’s Thumped AGAIN!!!

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Once again the guys in fluro yellow shirts smashed their opposition, the aptly named emus, on Wednesday night. The yellow men consisting of Trentosaurus, Brent, Shannan, Thommo, Collo, Tyson and Ash were far to strong for the Emus consisting of Dane “Yellow might look good on me” Seymour, Phil, Dwayne, Cerys and Vinny. The end score-line being 9-3.

After a tight first half the men in yellow were being held to a 2-2 draw. After a halftime show by a dog that couldnt stand up properly on the basketball court  the yellow boys blew their competition of the park with 3 goals in 3 minutes to lead 5-2. The game had been put to bed as the yellow men were never troubled again. The score blew out to 9-3 and the yellow men continue their march towards the title.

Special mention should probably go to a big orange orangutan in goals who also goes by the name of Trent. He not only stopped a few shots but also made sure to flatten Cerys “no shin-pads” Hawkins when he got to close to goal which provided amusement for all…..until we realised having Trent land on you can actually really hurt, Hey Cerys.

Better luck next week Emus.
